Our Catholic Faith

As a Catholic Primary School, our Catholic faith is integrated into our curriculum and gospel values are part of all aspects of the life of St Augustine Primary School.

Feast Days

Class programs also integrate special Feast days of the Catholic calendar. St Augustine Feast Day honouring our namesake St Augustine of Hippo is 28 August. We celebrate with mass and a day of celebratory activities for the students. Presentation Day on 21 November is celebrated annually to honour the Presentation Sisters who established our school.

Prayer and Masses

Praying as a community and living our school values is an important part of St Augustine Primary School life. Students engage in a range of both formal and informal prayer experiences. Class prayer is included in each day’s program and morning, before and after lunch and afternoon prayers are a part of our daily routine. Our School Prayer and song (link /our-faith/school-prayer-song) is central to our identity as a community. The school enjoys a very close and collaborative relationship with St Augustine Parish Parents and grandparents are most welcome to attend all school Masses/Liturgies and participate in parish life.

Sacraments

Catholic children at St Augustine Primary School will be prepared for the Sacraments of Reconciliation in Year 3, First Holy Communion in Year 4 and Confirmation in Year 6. Our community supports families and the parish in the preparation of children to receive the sacraments.

As a school we believe that faith development is an ongoing journey and one which is richly connected to all curriculum areas. The family is central to all learning with parents being the primary educators of their children. Therefore strong family/school and parish links are encouraged.
